Zheng Jianjiang, deputy to the 13th National People's Congress, has called for more support to turn Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province into a national pilot zone for the integrated applications of 5G and industrial internet.
Zheng, who is also the president of Aux Group, a Ningbo-based air conditioner manufacturer, made the suggestion at the annual session of the nation's top legislature, which commenced on March 5.
In 2019, Ningbo initiated a campaign to facilitate 5G and industrial internet applications in the city. To date, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has designated three projects in the city as national models in this regard.
Ningbo has met the basic conditions to set up a national 5G and Industrial internet integrated application pilot zone, according to the deputy.
He suggested that the nation rolls out more preferential policies to support the establishment of such a zone in the city.
Specific measures he mentioned include deepening cooperation between Ningbo and institutions affiliated to the MIIT, including the China Industrial Internet Research Institute, the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology, and hosting national level events including conferences and contests related to 5G and industrial internet.
Noting that the establishment of high-end innovation platforms is key to bolstering the drive, Huang called for more support to build national key labs or innovation centers in fields including extreme condition materials and magnetic materials in Ningbo.
