Zhou Fubo, the owner of Xiaoshansun Restaurant in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, has offered free Laba porridge to people in need around the Laba Festival for 10 years.
On Jan 8, two days before this year's Laba Festival, a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the eighth day of the 12th lunar month, Zhou and other restaurant staff got up early in the morning to make porridge. They made more than 100 bowls of porridge, which was later delivered to seniors, disabled people, sanitation workers, and migrant workers who are living nearby.
To keep the porridge warm during the delivery, Zhou had bought over 100 insulated food containers.
Zhou said that she has provided free Laba porridge since 2013.
In addition, she set up a tea stop at the gate of her restaurant, offering free tea for outdoor workers. Refreshing herbal tea is offered in the summer, while warm ginger tea is offered in the winter.
