Ninghai's gross domestic product (GDP) climbed 6.1 percent year-on-year to 70.108 billion yuan ($10.1 billion) in 2019, according to preliminary statistics released by local authorities.
The added value of the county's primary, secondary, and tertiary industries reached 4.627 billion yuan, 36.361 billion yuan, and 29.12 billion yuan respectively, growing 2.6 percent, 6.2 percent, and 6.5 percent.
In 2019, Ninghai received more than 20.4 million visitors, bringing in 20.241 billion yuan in tourism revenue, up 18.8 percent and 17.1 percent respectively.
The year also saw 45 local companies be designated as national high-tech companies, bringing the total number in the county to 186. The added value of the county's high-tech industries rose 9.9 percent to 10.014 billion yuan.
Per capita disposable income among urban residents was 61,016 yuan, up 8.6 percent year-on-year, while the figure for rural residents was 33,864 yuan, an uptick of nine percent.

Ninghai governs four sub-districts, 11 towns and three townships — Yuelong sub-district, Taoyuan sub-district, Meilin sub-district, and Qiaotouhu sub-district; Changjie town, Liyang town, Yishi town, Chalu town, Qiantong town, Sangzhou town, Huangtan town, Dajiahe town, Qiangjiao town, Xidian town, and Shenzhen town; Huchen township, Chayuan township and Yuexi township.

In September 2019, Ninghai was designated a national "all-for-one" tourism demonstration zone.
In October of the same year, it ranked among the top 100 counties nationwide in terms of comprehensive strength.
It was also listed among the top 100 counties across the nation in terms of business climate and tourism development.
In the same month, the county was designated as a national pilot area in implementing the "Two Mountain" Theory.
