At the construction site of the GCL Huidong LNG terminal at Yangkou Port in Rudong, Nantong, almost half of the exterior of two 200,000-cubic-meter LNG (liquefied natural gas) storage tanks has been completed two months ahead of schedule.

The project is a significant energy infrastructure initiative in Jiangsu province and projected to go operational in the first half of 2025, with an annual production capacity of 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

Ge Xiaofeng, general manager of GCL Huidong LNG Rudong Co Ltd, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far, saying the project is 1.9 percent ahead of schedule.

With a total investment of around 5 billion yuan ($698.64 million), the project is the first LNG terminal in China that features multiple functions, such as LNG unloading, storage, and transmission. The terminal is expected to generate an annual output value of 1.2 billion yuan.

In light of the scorching temperatures in July, measures have been taken to ensure the safety of construction workers. For example, work hours have been adjusted to avoid the midday heat, with operations taking place from 5:30 am to 11:00 am and 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Additionally, the site has been equipped with heatstroke prevention and cooling supplies.
