The People's Court of Yangkou Port in Rudong county – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – has jurisdiction over the largest area and population among all the people's courts in the city.

It has jurisdiction over four towns (sub-districts), 55 administrative villages, nine communities and neighborhood committees – with a registered population of nearly 300,000, a total area of 645.82 square kilometers, as well as 40 km of coastline.

There are two provincial economic development zones, a provincial agricultural development zone and a national first-class fishing port.

In June 2009, Jiangsu coastal development became a national strategy and on Aug 14 of the same year, the Yangkou Port People's Court came into being.

When it comes to the court, its most striking aspect is said to be its youthful element. The 10 staff members, including the president Xiao Wenming, were all born in the 1980s and 1990s.

Although the staff are relatively young, the court has made some major achievements and won itself multiple provincial titles.

In recent years, the court has tried many key cases – including contract disputes over pollution controls of South American shrimp and land transfer disputes – which have reportedly effectively protected the interests of the locals.

Since last year, the court has been actively expanding its services and streamlining its business procedures, striving to provide a more people-oriented legal environment for business as well as individuals.
