Nantong University unveils Calligraphy Department

Nantong University inaugurated the Calligraphy Department of the School of Art on Feb 21 to further promote the high-quality development of the art discipline and showcase its cultural characteristics.
During the inauguration ceremony, teachers from the newly established department discussed and exchanged ideas on the future direction of calligraphy education, discipline development, exhibition planning, and curriculum development.
The faculty expressed that the development of the calligraphy program at the School of Art has been steadily growing, and the integration and systematic development have brought both opportunities and challenges. In the future, they will integrate new potential to serve the local community and enhance their research capabilities to deliver satisfactory results to the university.
Zhang Wei, dean of the School of Art at NTU, said that the establishment of the Calligraphy Department is a milestone in further promoting NTU's deep integration with the city's cultural heritage, enhancing the university's reputation and influence, and promoting the inheritance and innovation of calligraphy art.
The Calligraphy Department boasts a professional team of teachers with profound academic achievements and rich teaching experience. It has also established a comprehensive curriculum system consisting of a master's program in calligraphy, undergraduate courses in calligraphy and seal cutting for fine arts design majors, calligraphy-related art education courses for the entire school, and calligraphy courses for teacher training programs.
