Hai'an is demonstrating how culture can truly benefit the public by making high-quality performances and exhibitions widely accessible across the city.

In recent years, the city has been focusing on improving public cultural services and ensuring that cultural resources reach neighborhoods, schools, and local communities. Since the beginning of this year, Hai'an has organized more than 1,170 public cultural activities — including stage performances, art exhibitions, lectures, and community workshops — attracting more than 230,000 participants.

One highlight was the National Day dance showcase held on Oct 1, where 18 local art groups performed in a lively city plaza. Hai'an has also introduced cultural events into commercial districts, launching small culture stations that feature pop-up concerts, children's dance shows, traditional folk music, and handicraft demonstrations. These performances have enhanced the atmosphere of local shopping areas, increased public engagement, and even boosted sales for nearby businesses.

The city has further advanced a new model linking performances and exhibitions to commercial centers, scenic areas, campuses, and villages. This year, hundreds of community-based programs — from village theater nights to mobile art shows — have brought professional artists and local performers to audiences who might otherwise have limited access to cultural experiences.

Hai'an's approach is not only enriching daily life, but also strengthening residents' sense of belonging. By delivering cultural enjoyment right at people's doorsteps, the city is building a vibrant cultural ecosystem where art, community, and everyday living are closely intertwined.
