Hai'an high-tech zone brings history to life on Cultural and Natural Heritage Day
June 14 marked the 2025 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, and Hai'an High-Tech Zone celebrated the occasion with a variety of engaging community activities that breathed new life into traditional culture and heritage.
In Wangchi Community, a reading session introduced children to the origins and significance of Cultural and Natural Heritage Day. Volunteers used vivid explanations to guide young participants through the symbolism behind cultural logos and the rich meanings they carry. The interactive session sparked great interest among the children, who were also recommended heritage-themed books suited to their age.
In Erli Community, a joint event with the zone's Experimental Primary School highlighted the local treasures of intangible cultural heritage. Volunteers showcased the rhythmic beauty of Hai'an Flower Drum, the intricate craftsmanship of Nantong crochet, and the majestic presence of the Hai'an Canglong Dance. Volunteers also brought props to demonstrate the flower drum dance steps and dragon dance formations and offered the children hands-on guidance in crochet techniques.
In Xiying Community, a bamboo weaving activity was held for local youth. Volunteers gave a detailed introduction to the history and cultural value of bamboo weaving, covering every step from selecting quality bamboo to splitting, smoothing, and layering the material, and finally to the weaving itself.
In Yanggang Community, children and their parents participated in a DIY mugwort hammer-making session. Staff explained the cultural background of mugwort hammers before walking participants through the crafting process.
Through these diverse, hands-on activities, the Hai'an High-Tech Zone made intangible cultural heritage accessible and enjoyable, especially for younger generations, ensuring these time-honored traditions continue to thrive in the modern world.
