Chongchuan pioneers park city development with top green metrics in Jiangsu
Yulan magnolia buds brighten the ecological corridor of the Nantong-Lyusi Canal in Chongchuan district, Nantong, offering exquisite sights in March.
The Nantong-Lyusi Canal, hailed as Nantong's first canal, has been undergoing a transformative ecological revitalization along its Chongchuan section since 2021. The local government implemented five ecological restoration projects that culminated in the completion of a 7.2-kilometer ecological corridor in May 2024.
Beyond the canal, Chongchuan's streets and riverbanks are teeming with parks and functional green spaces.
For instance, the national security-themed park in the western part of the Guiyu Jiangnan residential area features seasonal flora like camphor trees, osmanthus fragrans, and cherry blossoms. It also boasts children's play facilities, fitness equipment, and a 400-meter trail.
Chongchuan, aspiring to become a "city of parks", has prioritized scientific afforestation and green infrastructure. With a 41.35-percent urban green space ratio and 18.3 square meters of park area per capita—the highest in Jiangsu province, the district has redefined sustainable living through accessible, high-quality public landscapes.
