In Wuwei village, Hezuo town, Qidong, six distinctive industries drive rural prosperity. "Nearly all of our village's stay-behind population, especially middle-aged women, is engaged in four agricultural bases and two apparel enterprises," said He Jinmei, Party secretary of the village. Over 130 people are employed daily, with seasonal employment reaching around 300 workers.
Over the past decade, Wuwei village has introduced and expanded its industries. Ten years ago, a horticulture project was launched, transforming 13.3 hectares of cherry blossoms into a renowned tourist destination. Eight years ago, an asparagus plantation was introduced, followed by a diversified vegetable and fruit base five years ago, producing okra, strawberries, and cauliflower. Three years ago, the village supported Lu Meiqin Family Farm in introducing organic rice, revitalizing 20 hectares of farmland.
In addition, two local clothing businesses, Yintu Garment and Weiping Embroidery, have strengthened their competitive positions. The village has also partnered with major enterprises to promote its high-quality agricultural products. During last year's Mid-Autumn Festival alone, sales exceeded 100,000 yuan ($13,804.71).
With demand soaring for specialty agricultural products, the four agricultural bases now utilize nearly all available farmland in the village, generating over 3 million yuan in annual land rental income for local farmers. Meanwhile, wages paid to villagers from the apparel and agricultural industries surpassed 5.5 million yuan last year. Thriving industries also contributed to an increase of 950,000 yuan in collective village income, the highest in the town. Additionally, the village has established a "Home for the Disabled" providing jobs for disabled people.
