In recent years, Rudong county has accelerated its high-quality development by seizing multiple strategic opportunities. The county's maritime industry has seen impressive growth, with the annual industrial added value increasing by more than 20 percent. The total output value of the marine economy has surpassed 50 billion yuan ($6.88 billion).

Thanks to the recent launch of the G4, G5, F1, and F2 berths, Rudong Port's throughput has already exceeded 10 million metric tons ahead of schedule this year.

The Sunshine Island South Liquid Bulk Terminal, a key infrastructure project supporting coastal industries, primarily serves major projects like the 10-billion-yuan Jiangsu Tongkun Polyester Group, which have significant demand for raw materials. Tongkun alone consumes nearly 12,000 tons of chemical materials daily.

To ensure a sufficient supply of raw materials for these large-scale projects and to guarantee the safe docking of liquefied cargo vessels, the Rudong Border Inspection Station has addressed challenges related to vessel safety oversight and efficient customs clearance. In November 2022, the station established the province's first island-based border inspection office on Sunshine Island. Officers are stationed there 24/7, providing quick responses to port duties and community needs.

The office has tailored operational plans based on ship types and cargo characteristics. During peak times, the port can accommodate up to five vessels at once.

"The efficient customs clearance process ensures smooth energy imports and exports," said Ding Hui, deputy general manager of the Jiangsu Yangkou Port Authority. From January to November, the port handled about 3.79 million tons of liquid bulk cargo, a 24.7 percent year-on-year increase.
