Significant progress has been made on the GCL Huidong LNG Terminal project at Yangkou Port, Rudong. The external construction of the No 2 liquefied natural gas storage tank is nearly complete, with the installation of the inner tank currently underway.
"LNG storage tanks are a type of double-layer tank. The 'inner tank' must store LNG at minus 162 degrees. The layer between the inner and outer walls acts as insulation to maintain the temperature inside the tank," explained Wang Yuhang, who is in charge of the construction of Tank No 2.
The inner tank stands at a height of 39.48 meters and is constructed in 12 layers, all made from 9% nickel steel, known as the "diamond" of the steel industry.
As a major provincial energy infrastructure project, the construction of the terminal has been ongoing for 22 months, currently reaching 89 percent completion. The project is slated to commence operations in the first half of 2025, with an annual processing capacity of 3.5 million metric tons, expected to efficiently serve the entire Yangtze River basin.
