Haian pupils place first in world-class arithmetic competition
On July 15, two pupils from Haian won the first prize in the 8th Competition of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic of WAAMA held in Changchun, the capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province.
The two young arithmeticians, Cheng Zixuan and Wu Genrui, study at Haian Mingdao Elementary School and were among 12 contestants from Nantong representing Jiangsu and China. They both won the first prize in the individual all-round contest for group A.

The World Association of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic (WAAMA) was established in Beijing in 2002. With 55 member units from 19 countries and regions, WAAMA has made significant contributions to the worldwide promotion and development of abacuses and mental arithmetic. The Competition of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic of WAAMA has attracted nearly 2,000 participants from all over the world to date.
