Loquat harvest benefits farmers in Tongzhou
The loquat farm operated collectively by the Eryao residential community in Tongzhou district, Nantong, Jiangsu province, recently embraced a bountiful harvest.
Local community members shared that they are able to pick over 500 kilograms of loquats every day.
In 2018, Eryao introduced Baiyu loquats from Dongshan town, Suzhou, and vigorously developed its loquat economy. The community cultivated 60 mu (4 hectares) of land and encouraged villagers to plant this variety.
The growth of the loquat industry has increased villagers' incomes. Villager Ji Jianrong has planted five loquat trees at home, earning an additional 600 to 700 yuan ($82-97) each year. "After the loquats ripen, the village helps us sell them, relieving us of any worries."
The loquat planting area in the Eryao residential community spans over 260 mu, with its annual output value reaching 1.65 million yuan.
