Railway transport in Hai'an achieves growth in 2023
Hai'an city, located in Nantong, Jiangsu province, has made significant strides in railway transportation, with the cargo throughput at the Hai'an Railway Logistics Base surpassing 2 million metric tons in 2023.
The growth represents a leap from 87,000 tons in 2015, an annual growth rate of over 35 percent. At present, the base stands as a crucial hub for railway freight transportation in Jiangsu.
In early 2020, the base initiated trial operations for rail services connecting Hai'an to Shanghai, Hai'an to Ningbo Port, as well as a temporary cross-border train to Vietnam. Excluding holidays, these operations have since been running uninterrupted, contributing to Hai'an's status as one of the few key train departure bases within the Yangtze River Delta region.
Over the past few years, the base has diversified its operations and accommodated various sectors such as cables, photovoltaics, steel cord, and malt. Its influence extends across a 150-kilometer radius, creating a logistical ripple effect.
Over 230 domestic and international trade enterprises ship goods through the base. Among them is Jiangsu Hongbo Intelligent Home Co Ltd, which dispatches approximately 800 containers via the Hai'an railway trains annually.
Qin Xiangbin, the deputy general manager of the company, praised the base for its service quality and efficiency. He added that the use of this transportation channel provides them with a sense of security when shipping goods overseas.
To date, the base has assisted over 100 local Hai'an enterprises in expanding their overseas markets through port facilitation.
