The fifth Fish Release Festival was inaugurated on July 4 at Yangkou Port in Rudong county, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu Province.

The festival is aimed at conserving aquatic biodiversity and promoting harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

During the event, 1.83 million baby large yellow croaker, black porgy, half-smooth tongue sole, jellyfish, and other species were released into the sea.

Chen Lei, deputy Party secretary of Rudong, said at the event that Rudong in recent years has been promoting the development of marine economy based on its abundant marine resources.

The county needs to accelerate the transformation of the fishery industry, which is an important part of the marine economy, Chen added.

According to him, the total volume of aquatic products in the county reached 325,000 metric tons in 2022, generating an output value of 19.2 billion yuan ($2.65 billion).
