Agricultural products from Tongzhou shine in various competitions
The second Jiangsu "Good Cucumber" evaluation and promotion event recently concluded, with Jiangsu Jingrui Agricultural Technology Development Co Ltd receiving two honors: the top 10 "Good Bases" award and the special gold award for "Good Products".
Nearly 80 agricultural production enterprises and entities from the province participated in the event.
The awarded "Jingrui specialty cucumber" is a greenhouse cultivation variety that features smooth and spineless skin as well as a sweet and crisp taste.
Cao Dongmei, head of the company's Tongzhou base, said that the company has established partnerships with over 700 large chain retailers, including Starbucks, 7-11, Burger King, and Lawson.
Jingrui Agriculture has been recognized as among the top 10 well-known brands in China's vegetable industry and among the top 10 high-quality and best-selling brands in Shanghai.
The rapid growth of Jingrui Agriculture was made possible by Tongzhou's efforts to boost the establishment of high-quality agricultural product brands in recent years.
For example, rice in Tongzhou is one of the agricultural products that have benefited the brands' establishment.
To encourage enterprises and farmers to explore new technologies, cultivate new brands, and enhance the reputation and market share of Tongzhou's rice, the "Tongzhou Fine Rice" evaluation contest has been held annually since 2019.
The event's influence has been expanding each year, leading to the emergence of several renowned local brands.
Local authorities also encouraged farmers to participate in provincial and municipal agricultural product contests.
Qiyuan brand grapes cultivated by Cao Haizhong, a local grape grower, have won the Jiangsu grape evaluation gold award for six consecutive years.
To date, Tongzhou has registered over 10 grape trademarks, said Yan Guihua, a senior agronomist at the Tongzhou planting station.
In 2022, the grape cultivation area in Tongzhou reached 13,000 mu (866.67 hectares), with a production of 20,000 metric tons and a total output value of 550 million yuan ($77.8 million). High-end grapes accounted for over 60 percent.
According to local authorities, Tongzhou organizes farmers to participate in provincial, municipal, and district agricultural product competitions more than ten times on average each year.
This move has further explored and enhanced the value of high-quality agricultural resources in rural areas and elevated the influence of agricultural products in the district.
