Tongzhou district of Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has made great achievements in transport construction, industrial development, and ecological environment in the past decade.
Authorities have introduced new subway lines and 150 kilometers of roads, including 70 km of expressways, to improve the transportation system in the district over the past 10 years. The construction of high-speed railways and the airport has also strengthened Tongzhou's connection with other cities.
To date, the district has invested more than 700 million yuan ($14.65 million) in the construction of transportation infrastructure in rural areas. The 54 bus lines in the district have ensured that all towns and villages in Tongzhou are connected to one another.
Tongzhou has also made significant strides in industrial development. Over the past decade, more than 300 investment projects each worth over 100 million yuan were introduced to the district. As of the end of 2021, Tongzhou was home to 106 enterprises above designated size, among which 44 enterprises had taxable sales of more than 100 million yuan.
Projects related to motor vehicle and auto-parts, new generation technology information and intelligent equipment accounted for 43.5 percent of all new projects introduced to the district.
In addition, Tongzhou has witnessed a stark improvement in its ecological environment.
The water quality in the district has been classified as Grade III, the third-highest level in a five-tier quality system for water in China. Thanks to the increase in green spaces, the level of improvement for air quality in the district was ranked first in Jiangsu province last year.
Tongzhou has also been constructing Chengdong New Area and Jinshawan New Area to enhance its livability.
