A great honor was recently bestowed on manufacturer Nantong Yaolong Metal Machining Co Ltd – located in the Tongzhou district of Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – which specializes in the research, design and production of flagpoles.
Flagpoles produced by Yaolong took pride of place on the world's stage – together with the slowly rising Five-Starred Red Flag – at the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, which took place at the National Stadium on Feb 4.
It is the second time that Yaolong-produced flagpoles have appeared at Olympic venues – the first being at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
In the wake of receiving the order last year to install the flagpoles and provide the national flags of different countries for the Beijing Winter Olympics, Yaolong swung into action and organized a special team consisting of research staff and constructors to follow up on the task.
According to the requirements of the design institute, the team drew up the design and made multiple samples. In the event, seven 18-meter-high flagpoles made it to the opening ceremony.
They were joined by another 600 or so 2.85m-high flagpoles, as well as a host of national flags to go on tgem and thousands of hand-waving flags at the debut of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
In order to enable the Five-Starred Red Flag flutter in a perfect way, Yaolong's R&D team added a rotating device whose special nozzle flawlessly tracks the wind, according to Chen Buyue, chairman of Yaolong Metal Machining.
In addition to the two Olympic Games held in Beijing, the firm has provided products and services for the World Expo 2010 Shanghai, the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games and many other large-scale events. Its products are sold in over 20 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Middle East countries.
