Two new landmarks – the Nantong Art Museum and the Nantong Eminent Figures Museum, located in the city in East China's Jiangsu province – are due to open on June 29, local media reported.

With a height of 24 meters, the Nantong Art Museum has a total floorspace of 32,000 square meters.

In addition to 21 dedicated exhibition halls, the museum also comes equipped with conference halls, multifunctional halls and warehouses, to satisfy the display requirements of first-class art exhibitions at home and abroad.

Designed by the late world-renowned French modernist architect Paul Andreu (1938-2018), the Nantong Art Museum is regarded as a key cultural and public works project – undertaken by the city's municipal Party committee and government – to meet the general public's cultural needs and to facilitate economic and social development.

Adhering to the precepts of promoting tradition and valuing creation, the museum will reportedly carry out multi-level cultural and artistic exchange activities through exhibitions, academic research, public education programs, cultural services and other endeavors.

In celebration of the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, six major CPC-theme art exhibitions will be staged in the museum in the upcoming month.

Nearly 700 works created by about 500 artists are to be displayed, with a wide range of techniques and styles, including painting, calligraphy and murals.
