Qidong launched a restoration project on Aug 13 in a bid to enhance the flood control level of the river and sea banks and to become a more beautiful city.
The river-sea embankment of Qidong is 178 kilometers long; the river section is 70 km long and the seawall stretches 108 km.
According to the preliminary planning of the Qidong government, four dykes and three sluices will be built in succession from this year. By 2022, the flood control level of the river-sea embankment will be sufficiently raised.
By 2025, Qidong will finish the construction of an 80-km beautiful river-sea embankment and realize the vision of "running a marathon on the banks of the river and sea".
The project is a major step towards building a beautiful Qidong and an effective measure to promote the vision of "Qidong leading in regional water control" proposed by the Nantong municipal government.
In accordance with the goal of "laying a foundation in one year, achieving results in three years and setting up a model in five years", the Qidong water authority will build the river-sea embankment as a foundation and example of beautiful Qidong.
