A promotional event for all-for-one tourism was held on Dec 7 in Rugao, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province.
A variety of mouthwatering goat meat dishes produced in Wuyao town, Rugao, were introduced during the event, attracting many buyers from Shanghai and Zhejiang province.
Wuyao is one of China's most important goat production centers. The town began trading goat in 1978, and there are currently more than 290 local households who raise goats.
According to the head of the local goat commerce chamber, the town has sold 550,000 goats this year, bringing in nearly 1 billion yuan ($142.1 million).
In addition, the town is home to more than 20 goat meat restaurants and more than 30 goat meat processing companies. The entire industry is valued at more than 1.2 billion yuan.
"I started selling goats when I was 22 years old," said Wu Jun, general manager of a local goat meat company, who has played a leading role in the town's goat meat processing industry since 2009.
Driven by a voracious demand for goat meat products, local companies have developed a "whole goat" series of products that includes cold cut goat, braised goat in soy sauce, cooked goat tripe, and handmade goat dumplings.
