A group of Taiwan university students visited Tangzha ancient town in Nantong, in East China’s Jiangsu province on Aug 25, to learn about the ancient technique of movable-type printing and papermaking, organizers said.

The 44 students, who came from 32 Taiwan universities, started a three-week internship in 15 Nantong-based companies on Aug 6. 

Organizers said the activity aimed to promote cultural exchanges between Nantong and Taiwan, which have maintained a close relationship in various fields, including trade.

Nantong is currently home to more than 2,000 Taiwan-funded projects. The city has also implemented a series of preferential policies to deepen the bilateral cooperation in commerce and culture.

The city has set up two provincial-level centers for communications with Taiwan: an employment and entrepreneur center for Taiwan youth and an e-commerce service center for Taiwan merchants.

The direct air route between the two regions carried 34,000 passengers last year, officials said.
