Hai'an eco-planting increases farmers' incomes
Local farmers weed a 400 mu (26.67 hectares) organic rice plantation in Jianshe village in a high-tech zone in Hai'an, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, on Aug 18. The plantation engages in eco-planting and makes use of biotechnology and a high-efficiency breeding model to cultivate ducks and rice. The ducks, which are raised in paddy fields, are used for pesticide control, weeding, and fertilizing the rice. The entire production process uses almost no pesticides or chemical fertilizers, so the quality and economic benefits of the rice are greatly increased. Around 600 kilograms of organic rice are expected to be produced per mu and over 2,000 yuan ($ 283.49) in economic benefits are expected to be generated. [Photo/IC]
