Tongzhou supports students in remote areas
Nearly 20 volunteers from Xinshouxianglian Volunteers Association in Nantong’s Tongzhou district went to Zhenba county in Shaanxi province, providing them with donations.
The Rencun town in Shaanxi province is a unit-to-unit program of Tongzhou district. Rencun town is adjacent to Sichuan, with undeveloped infrastructure and weak industrial base.
There are more than 8,000 people in the town, but those suffering from financial difficulties account for a quarter of the total.
According to schedule, volunteers came to Rencun Primary School. It is a boarding school with 352 students. “We will provide financial aid to students suffering from financial difficulties,” said Zhu Xintao, president of the association.
Volunteers donated their schoolbags, stationeries and water purifiers to the school. “Your donations show love for our students, and also gives encouragement to our town,” said Liu Xi, secretary of the Party committee of Rencun town.
The volunteers visited ten students, some of them live in the town, but some of them live in mountainous areas. Wang Xiang, together with his brother, lives in the mountains.
Wang's mother was seriously injured in a car accident and couldn’t work. His father is a migrant worker, and has to go back home to look after his mother. Seeing the donated money, Wang’s mother said, “It is not easy for you to make money, and I cannot accept it,” with teary eyes.
At another student Liu Yiming’s home, volunteers all cried in sadness. Liu’s father and mother divorced four years ago. He and his brother live with their father, who is also a migrant worker. They have to look after each other.
After visiting the students’ homes, the volunteers decided to give long-term aides to them. They also decided to lay plans to help left-behind children.
