Tongzhou’s primary school conduct earthquake disaster prevention drills
“When earthquake takes place, hurry away,” said staff members of security team from Tongzhou’s Jinsha Primary School in Nantong Jiangsu province.
The students quickly put their hands around their heads and hid themselves under the table. Then, as the second alarm sounded, the children were evacuated to the open area of the school under the guidance of their teachers.
There wasn’t an actual earthquake that took place; the school authority carried out an emergency evacuation drill for earthquake disaster prevention on May 8.
The drill was conducted ahead of the National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day which falls on May 12.
“This is a very meaningful learning experience, and it gives us confidence to deal with disasters,” said Ji Xinyu, a second grade student in the school.
Jinsha Primary School started to enroll students last year. The school so far has 274 students and 20 teaching and administrative staff members.
In order to reduce disasters, the school carries out security education and safety drills on a regular basis.
