Tongzhou has more village libraries
“Let’s find books of healthy diets, and see which kinds of dishes can help reduce blood fat,” said Li Jinping, a villager from Jinsha Street of Nantong’s Tongzhou district.
More than ten villagers were reading books in the library of Xinsanyuan Village on the morning of Jan 17, and Li was one of them.
“There are many varieties of books here, and there are also computers for us to search for information online,” said Li.
“Sometimes I also bring my granddaughter here to read over weekends,” he said.
Xinsanyuan Village Library has more than 5,000 books, which can meet nearly all kinds of reading demands for villagers around.
Last month, Xinsanyuan Village Library was also rated as a four-star model village library of Nantong.
Jinsha Steet began to build village library from 2016, and all 23 villages have their own libraries now.
“Every book has a unique bar code, they can borrow a book in one village library and pay it back in another,” said Zhang Weihua, a staff member from Jinsha Street.
“We will make great efforts to attract more social funds to buy books and computers for these libraries,” Zhang said.
Tongzhou district has spared no pains to promote the building of village libraries and improve their services.
The district now has a total of 241 village libraries, of which 15 are four-star demonstration village libraries and two are five-star demonstration village libraries at provincial level.
