On 2024 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day (June 8), the exhibition "Artistic Glimpses of Macao: Sketches of Macao’s World Heritage Site" opened at Prince Kung's Palace Museum, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to China and the 19th anniversary of the Historic Centre of Macao being listed as a World Heritage Site on July 15, 2005.
The exhibition features 50 paintings depicting scenes of the Historic Centre of Macao created by Ieng Lai, chairman of the Macao Artists Association, and Tam Chek Wun, president of the Macao Visual Arts Association. The artworks, crafted in either traditional Chinese painting or Western watercolor, showcase the churches, temples, and old streets of Macao's Historic Centre.
The two artists have explored the streets and alleys of the Historic Centre of Macao, using meticulous strokes to interpret the timeless value of cultural heritage. Their works allow viewers to appreciate Macao's unique charm and evoke a sense of responsibility for preserving the region’s cultural heritage.
At the exhibition site, the depicted scenes are complemented by textual illustrations of the Historic Centre of Macao as a World Cultural Heritage Site. Experts from the Macao Society of Specialist Guide have designed guided tours, offering visitors insight into the beauty of Macao from historical, artistic, and architectural perspectives, and highlighting its role in exchanges between Chinese and Western cultures.
Co-hosted by Prince Kung's Palace Museum and the Macao Visual Arts Association, the exhibition also has support from the Publicity and Culture Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, the Macao Cultural Development Fund, the Macao Artists Association, the Macao Artist Society, and the Macao Society of Specialist Guide.
The exhibition will be open to the public from June 9 to July 28.
