The desk is made from rosewood. The surface of the desk is embedded with marble. Each leg of the desk is decorated with fastening pieces in three directions, which was a common feature of Ming Dynasty furniture. It was kept by German scholar Gustav Ecke and was later donated to Prince Kung's Palace Museum by his wife Zeng Youhe (also known as Betty Ecke) in 2006. The desk was also included in Chinese Domestic Furniture, which was compiled by Gustav Ecke.
