A comprehensive integrated circuit (IC) industrial base was established on Oct 27 in the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

The Oriental IC Port has already attracted over 40 of China's top IC enterprises and more than 150 billion yuan ($22.4 billion) in investment. The enterprises are mainly involved in chip and equipment manufacturing, materials, and chip design.

At the inauguration ceremony, enterprises reached agreements with the Lin-gang Special Area Administration on 14 key projects involving chip manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, key materials, chip design, and other parts of the integrated circuit industrial chain. The projects involve 22.5 billion yuan in total investment.

It is estimated that by the end of this year, total investment in integrated circuits in Lin-gang will exceed 100 billion yuan, according to Zhu Ming, deputy director of the Shanghai Development and Reform Commission.

Zhu said earlier that Lin-gang's mission is to lead domestic industrial upgrading, provide a new driving force for internal trade, and focus on important IC fields and links, artificial intelligence, biological medicine, aerospace and other industries.
