Chenggong district sees tourism boom during National Day holiday

Chenggong district in Kunming, Yunnan province, saw a significant surge in tourism during the National Day holiday, with visitor numbers and demand reaching new highs.

The district welcomed 562,000 tourists, reflecting a 39.35 percent increase year-on-year. The Dounan Flower Market, a major attraction, drew 312,000 visitors alone.

Tourism revenue totaled 4.49 billion yuan ($63.46 million), a 34.87 percent rise compared to last year. Of the visitors, 393,000 were day-trippers, contributing 1.22 billion yuan, while 169,000 stayed overnight, generating 3.27 billion yuan.

From Sept 26 to Oct 30, Chenggong organized 29 lively events for Golden Week, featuring art exhibitions, float parades and traditional opera performances. More than 30 artists, 20 co-creation institutions, 40 lifestyle brands and eight practitioners of intangible cultural heritage participated.

By fostering unique cultural identities tied to local history, landscapes and traditions, Chenggong aims to solidify its reputation as the "Flower Capital" and boost its economic impact.
