SJJCF Jiu-Jitsu Competition debuts in Yunnan

The SJJCF Jiu-Jitsu Competition made its inaugural appearance in Kunming, Yunnan province on Sept 16, hosted by the Chenggong District Sports and Cultural Activity Center.

Athletes from various countries, including China, Serbia, the United States, France and Australia, participated in this exciting event.

Featuring 16 categories across adult, youth, and children's divisions, the daylong competition had over 200 matches, encompassing group stages and knockout rounds.

The event was free and open to the public, attracting a sizable crowd of spectators and Jiu-Jitsu enthusiasts who enjoyed thrilling international matchups and witnessed the dynamic artistry of the sport up close.

Spanning five continents, the SJJCF Jiu-Jitsu Competition has seen significant growth in China over the past decade, engaging more than 150,000 participants across 44 Chinese teams. This event not only offers competitive excitement but also appeals to spectators.

Since Jiu-Jitsu was introduced as an official event at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, its popularity in China has soared. The sport has gained further visibility through UFC Women's World Champion Zhang Weili, who frequently employs Jiu-Jitsu techniques in her fights and inspires a growing number of recreational practitioners across the country.
