A Dounan Flower Market-themed metro train that runs for 43 kilometers around Kunming in Yunnan province is set to be put into operation on Aug 9.
Titled "Romantic Travel in the Flower City", the train decoration is the culmination of a year-long initiative to promote the charm of Kunming, also known as "Spring City" and "Flower City", by integrating floral decorations into metro travel and station design.
The special train, which will run on Kunming's Metro Line 4, will feature six carriages. Floral designs will be changed for significant holidays, including the Mid-Autumn Festival, National Day, New Year's Day, Spring Festival and Mother's Day.

Jingui Street Station on Line 4 will serve as a focal point of this transformation. The station hall and certain entrances and exits will be decorated with flowers, creating a visually stunning environment for commuters. Directional signs at the core transfer stations of Line 4 will guide passengers to the Dounan Flower Market, which is the largest in Asia.
The first phase of the train and flower-themed station will be unveiled tomorrow, just in time for Chinese Valentine's Day, which falls on Friday. To mark Valentine's Day, 10,000 flowers will be distributed free of charge to the public at 6 metro stations. Special gifts will be prepared for passengers at Jingui Street Station on this day.

In addition, there will be a series of engaging activities at Jingui Street Station, including flash mob performances, live singing, markets and lacquer fan making.
Kunming Metro Line 4 is a well-connected route, linking Kunming South Station and providing seamless transfers to the Airport Express. It acts not only as a scenic journey through Spring City but also as a gateway for international tourists.
The promotional activity is expected to elevate Dounan Flower Market's image and enhance the quality of the local flower industry.
