Mohan town, once a far-flung town in Southwest China’s Yunnan province bordering Laos, is taking on a new profile as a booming international land port.
Since the China-Laos Railway was put into operation in December 2021, it has seen rapid development buoyed by increasingly smooth logistics.
The 1,035-kilometer line that runs between Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan, and Vientiane, the capital of Laos, leaves China via Mohan port.
Located at the two ends of the China-Laos Railway in China, Mohan and Kunming are closely connected by the international railway.
The Mohan Railway Port has implemented measures to enhance transportation capacity, improve customs clearance efficiency, and reduce logistics costs. Customs clearance time for international cargo trains on the China-Laos Railway has been reduced from over 40 hours initially to less than five hours now. Additionally, the port can handle up to 18 international cargo trains in a single day.
Since its inception, the China-Laos Railway has processed over 9,000 international cargo trains, transporting a total of 7.95 million tons of import and export goods as of Tuesday, according to data from China Railway Kunming Bureau Group Co Ltd.
Since the beginning of this year, the railway has transported 1.15 million tons of cross-border goods as of Tuesday, a year-on-year increase of 33.7 percent.
The China-Laos Railway, a landmark project of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, began operations in December 2021. The 1,035-kilometer railway connects Kunming in China with Vientiane in Laos. Its cargo transport services have covered 12 Belt and Road partner countries.
