In early spring, the blooming camellias in the Golden Temple scenic area in Kunming attract many tourists.
The history of camellia cultivation in Golden Temple dates back more than 400 years, with January to March being the peak blooming period for camellias. Currently, the scenic area has planted over 1,000 mu (about 67 hectares) of camellias, totaling more than 400,000 plants of nearly 1,200 varieties, gathering precious camellia varieties from southwestern and eastern China, as well as most parts of the world.
