Yunnan Shanshan New Material held the commissioning ceremony for its lithium-ion battery cathode material integrated production base in Anning Industrial Park, Kunming, on Jan 11. With an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons, it also marks the world's largest integrated factory for lithium-ion battery cathode materials.
The base results from the investment project of Shanghai Shanshan Lithium Battery Materials Technology in Kunming. Yunnan Shanshan New Material is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanshan Corporation headquartered in Shanghai, specializing in the production of various specifications of artificial graphite anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
With a total investment of 12 billion yuan ($1.67 billion), the project includes the construction of six workshops for grinding, modification, graphitization, secondary coating, carbonization, and finished product processing. These workshops will produce various specifications of artificial graphite anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, applicable for new energy vehicles and energy storage batteries.
The main customers include domestic and international leading enterprises such as LGC, BYD, SKON, and Farasis Energy. After the project reaches full production capacity, it is expected to achieve an annual output value of 15 billion yuan, contribute 1 billion yuan in annual tax revenue, and create more than 4,000 new job opportunities.
Pu Tai, mayor of Anning, said that in just 442 days, Shanshan constructed the largest modern factory in the industry, demonstrating speed in project development and good business environment of Anning.
