On April 30, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin shared a post on his public Facebook page, featuring six captivating photos of Jacaranda landscapes, along with a caption that read: "On the streets of Kunming during the International Labor Day holidau, jacarandas sway in the wind, which may be the reason why Kunming is called the city of spring."
The post quickly caught the attention and sparked discussions among netizens. Many netizens were amazed by the beauty of Kunming. Maymay Tang wrote, "The reputation of the Spring City is well-deserved. Such a beautiful city! I must visit Kunming in person to appreciate its beauty." Fei Huan exclaimed, "Let's meet in the Spring City and join the blue-purple dream." Fan Liyuan added, "The Jacaranda trees, imported from South America, are showing their brilliant colors in the Spring City."
Jacaranda trees, native to Brazil in South America, were not originally found in China. Kunming began introducing these trees in 1984, and their presence has grown ever since. The initial Jacaranda trees planted along Jiaochang Middle Road now extend over 2 kilometers. Additionally, hundreds of Jacaranda trees can be found along the Panlong River oil pipeline bridge section, Dianchi Road, Beijing Road, Denghua Street, and numerous other streets. From late April to May, the streets of Kunming are adorned with blossoming Jacaranda trees, their vibrant blue flowers evoking expansive oceans, making them a beloved attraction in the "Spring City."
Wang Wenbin highlighted that Kunming, known as the "Spring City," may owe its name to the flourishing Jacaranda trees swaying in the breeze along its streets in May. But it goes beyond that. The saying, "Weather akin to February and March, blossoms flourish year-round," perfectly encapsulates the essence of the Spring City. Whenever one visits Kunming, they are greeted by vibrant, aromatic flowers in full bloom, creating an irresistible charm that captivates and enchants visitors.
Kunming is known as the "Spring City" not only because of its pleasant climate but also because of its thriving flowers. As the netizens' comments indicate, the Spring City of Kunming is not only captivatingly beautiful but also a truly desirable destination.
