Statistics from the Kunming Dianchi Lake Plateau Lake Research Institute show that the number of common coots in Dianchi Wetland Park registered a year-on-year growth of 86 percent, hitting 4,102 in February.
Common coots are a rare migratory bird species widely found on the Eurasian and Indian continents, Southeastern countries and Australia. They are good at swimming and diving, which play an important role in them catching aquatic plants.
A large number of common coots often travel to Dianchi Wetland Park to spend the winter.
The rising number of common coots has become a manifestation of the consistent improvement of the ecological environment and forest coverage in Dianchi Wetland Park.
