The burgeoning internet industry in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province, has fueled the high-quality development of the digital economy.
Statistics showed that the scale of Kunming's digital economy reached 223.8 billion yuan ($ 32.36 billion) in 2021, accounting for 33.4 percent of Yunnan's digital economy and 31 percent of the city's GDP.
The proportion of the digital economy in Kunming's GDP was about 6.3 percentage points higher than that of Yunnan.
In 2021, value-added output and operating income of core sectors in Kunming's digital economy hit 28.2 billion yuan (about $ 4.1 billion) and 69.12 billion yuan (roughly $ 10 billion). There were 299 enterprises associated with core sectors in the digital economy, representing 45.7 percent of Yunnan's total number.
Meanwhile, the number of mobile telecommunication base stations in Kunming reached 79,662, which was up by 2.38 percent and constituted 22.2 percent of the total figure of Yunnan.
All villages in Kunming were covered with optical fiber network in 2021.
Kunming became the only city from Yunnan to be included into the list of top 100 Chinese cities in terms of the development of the digital economy in 2022, according to a report.
The report was released by the China Center for Information Industry Development at the China International Digital Economy Expo in Shijiazhuang of North China's Hebei province on Nov 16, 2022.
