Authorities from Kunming, capital of China’s Southwest Yunnan province, and Armenia, Colombia, signed a letter of intent for developing sister city relations via video link on March 30.
Armenia and Kunming share similar experience in agricultural and sports development, laying ground for further exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, said Sun Qun, deputy mayor of Kunming.
Sun expressed hope that a long-term and comprehensive cooperative relationship will be established and that the two cities will achieve common prosperity and development.
Jose Manuel Rios Morales, mayor of Armenia, said, “The common features of Armenia and Kunming allow the two cities to jointly promote economic and social development through exchanges and mutual learning. I am very glad that the two cities can approach each other and get to know each other. This is a key step in the friendly interaction between the two cities and lays a solid foundation for future exchanges and interactions between the two cities.”
Lan Hu, Chinese Ambassador to Colombia, said Kunming and Armenia enjoy promising cooperation potential in coffee planting and ecological cooperation. The Chinese Embassy in Colombia will, as always, actively support exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two cities.
Luis Diego Monsalve, Colombian Ambassador to China, said, “The bilateral relations between Colombia and China have reached a record high level in history. It is also an important link in the enhancement of friendly relations between the two countries. The embassy has pledged to actively support the development of friendly relations between the two cities.”
