Roses, gypsophila, carnations... the largest fresh cut flower trading market in Asia - Dounan Flower Market in Kunming was a sea of flowers on the first day after the Spring Festival. Farmers and florists were busy selling and delivering blooms to eager customers.
Kui Lihua, deputy head of flower quality control and service department, checked all the flowers in the processing workshop. “I need to make sure all the parts of flowers including their petals, leaves, stalks and roots are all in good condition.” Working in the business for 21 years, every little flaw cannot escape her eyes.
The market sees a daily sale of 20 million flowers destined for over 50 countries and regions. At present, Yunnan has cultivated nearly 400 new species and imported 600 ones.
"Orders have poured in after the festival, and they require efficient logistics to maintain freshness," said Wang Bing, an owner of flower store. He called the SF Express after receiving orders on e-commerce platform.
"On Feb 7, we shipped more than 200 tons of flowers," said Yang Jinglei, a manager of SF Express. They have specially set up a team to make sure flowers can be delivered to customers no later than the next day. They also cooperate with railway, aviation and other departments to guarantee the fast cold chain transportation.
With the increasing demand, flower planting and equipment have been upgraded accordingly, and the work of variety selection and base transformation has continued to advance.
