A China-Laos Railway freight train loaded with nearly 1,000 tons of goods from Anning departed on Dec 17 from Anning, Yunnan, beginning its journey to Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

It is the first freight train from Anning to run on the newly-opened China-Laos line. Anning is known for producing steel, fertilizer, feed, and phosphate rock.

Bi Shaogang, mayor of Anning, said Anning has connected China to South Asia and Southeast Asian countries since ancient times. Now, as an important part of Kunming’s efforts to become a regional international center, Anning will play a more important role in opening up and promoting international cooperation, as well as achieving mutual benefit and win-win results.
