Themed "Harmonious neighbors of reciprocity and fraternity; connectivity and communication," the "2021 Lancang-Mekong TV Week -- the National Theme Day of Laos" opened on Wednesday in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan province.

More than 30 TV series from Lancang-Mekong countries will be broadcast on TV channels and other media platforms in these countries.

The opening ceremony also saw the unveiling of a documentary on the China-Laos railway, featuring the two countries' collaboration on this huge project.

China is willing to work with Mekong countries to promote cooperation in the fields of content and technology, and make new contributions to building a safer, more stable and prosperous Lancang-Mekong region, said Meng Dong, deputy director of China's National Radio and Television Administration.

The Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism is an important stage for the two parties to effectively strengthen communication and cooperation. Lancang-Mekong TV Week has become a bridge connecting Laos and China’s media cooperation and exchanges, said Vansy Kouamoua, head of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos.

Li Malin, the deputy head of Yunnan, said the Mekong River (also known as the Lancang River in China) is a vital waterway connecting China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Lancang-Mekong countries are friendly neighbors and cooperative partners.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism and the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Laos.

The event was organized by the National Radio and Television Administration of China and the Yunnan provincial government.
