Black-headed gulls are warmly welcomed in Kunming, the warm southwestern China city.
The gulls have spent their winters in the city for 37 consecutive years since first being spotted in the city in 1985.
Last winter, an estimated 41,000 black-headed gulls nested in the city for winter.
To ensure the birds are well-protected, rangers have been arranged to feed birds, observe their activity, and patrol.
