Kunming and another 21 cities and zones were listed by the National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC) as key areas that will expand cooperation with the EU for 2021-23. This is part of efforts to enrich and deepen China-EU regional cooperation.
They are the third group of such designated cities and zones since 2006, when the NDRC, approved by State Council, or China’s cabinet, set up regional policy cooperation with EU.
The two parties have been working to complete their cooperation working frame, expand and deepen cooperation content, and have reaped fruits in economic, trade, culture and personal exchanges.
The selected cities and zones cover regional areas and economic centers such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the Yangtze Economic Belt and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay.
They enjoy a sound social and economical development level and convenient transportation.
More importantly, they have characteristic economic and social advantages, and a favorable basis in terms of cooperating with Europe. They are expected to exemplify international cooperation development for their nearby areas.
With the evolution of scientific and technological drivers, the two parties have shifted focus to fields such as new energy, new materials, electronic information, equipment manufacturing, and biomedicine.
Online clubs for small and medium-sized enterprises in Europe, agencies of EU countries, friendly exchange stations in Europe, and overseas talent workstations have been set up to facilitate cooperation.
