On Oct 21, authorities in Kunming held a meeting to boost the protection of black-headed gulls that will arrive in the warm southwestern China city for winter.
To date, more than 2,000 black-headed gulls have arrived in Dianchi Lake.
The gulls have spent their winters in the city for 37 consecutive years since first being spotted in the city in 1985.
Last winter, an estimated 41,000 black-headed gulls nested in the city for winter.
To ensure the birds are well-protected, rangers have been arranged to feed birds, observe their activity, and patrol.
Signs and notes have been set up in key habitats to help protect the birds.
