The beautiful campus of Yunnan's first university still sits perched on a hill overlooking Green Lake. A giant staircase leads up from the front gate to the landmark Huize Building, built in French style. The remains of the old Confucian examination center stand behind it. Other old buildings from the university's early days are scattered among the trees and gardens. In autumn, locals flock here to see the gingko-lined lanes.
