Kunming Economic and Technological Development Zone (the "economic and technological development zone") is located in the eastern area of Kunming and covers 9.8 square kilometers. It was built in 1992 and added to the list of national industrial development zones by the State Council in 2000.
The main business income of the economic and technological development zone surged 12.7 percent on a yearly basis to 206.8 billion yuan in 2019. Its value-added industrial output registered an annual growth rate of 9.5 percent in 2019, and its fixed-asset investment expanded by 7 percent in 2019. Its annual retail sales of social consumer goods grew by 3 percent on a yearly basis in 2019. Its general budget income registered an annual growth of 8 percent to exceed 4.1 billion yuan in 2019, and its foreign trade volume increased by 12 percent that year.
The economic and technological development zone received a cumulative investment of 14.9 billion yuan from investors outside Kunming and actually utilized $110 million of foreign direct investment in 2019. It ranked first for investment attraction among all industrial development zones in Kunming for nine straight years.
Over 20 large-scale industrial projects, with total investment exceeding 10 billion yuan and including GLP I-Park Kunming industrial park, Henan Bonded cross-border e-commerce, Huawei Intelligent Industrial Park and Yunnan Guohao Communication Group, settled down in the economic and technological development zone in 2019.
The economic and technological development zone attached great importance to its industrial upgrading, ranked first among all industrial parks from across the entire province, and was designated a provincial new-type industrialized industry demonstration base.
The Yunnan branch of Uni-President Corporation and Xuelan Dairy Company were honored as two Yunnan Top 10 Green Foods Firms in 2019. Yunnan King-Shine Tea was also presented with a Yunnan Top 20 Innovation Firms award in 2019. Ten firms were promoted into a higher industrial scale as their annual revenue had exceeded 20 million yuan.
Furthermore, five companies such as Shennong Agricultural Industry Group and Yunnan OLiGHTEK Opto-Electronic Technology Group were added to a provincial list of major listed firms in 2019, accounting for one fourth of the total number listed.
