Kunming High-tech Industrial Development Zone (the "industrial development zone") was one of 53 national high-tech industrial development areas approved by the State Council in 1992. It covers an area of 11.5 square kilometers and is comprised of Liangjiahe New Area, Jinding Science Park, Science Street and Private Science Park. It has made a sound improvement in its investment environment and further consolidated its development strength over recent decades.
The industrial development zone was designated as one of the second group of China's national green industrial parks and as one of Yunnan's first provincial new-type industrialized demonstration bases for biomedicine and manufacturing equipment in 2019.
Figures show that the industrial development zone completed a general budget income of roughly 2.38 billion yuan and a main business income of about 224.18 billion yuan in 2019. Its total industrial output value surged 10.6 percent on a yearly basis to 62.52 billion yuan and its value-added industrial output registered an annual growth rate of 10.1 percent in 2019. The number of companies with annual revenue of more than 20 million yuan in the industrial development zone expanded from 72 to 81 in 2019.
Meanwhile, the industrial development zone completed total fixed-asset investment of about 5.36 billion yuan and was home to a commercial building with annual taxation of over 100 million yuan and two commercial buildings with a yearly taxation of over 10 million in 2019. Its foreign trade hit nearly $3.18 billion and the annual retail sales of social consumer goods exceeded 6.51 billion yuan in 2019.
In addition, there were 34 companies added to the list of high-tech technological firms in the industrial development zone in 2019. Local enterprises registered a total of 2,366 invention patents that same year.
Four municipal technological centers for enterprises were built in the industrial development zone in 2019. Apart from drawing the entry of 44 firms, the industrial development zone in 2019 welcomed a number of talented individuals and teams, which included 25 national talents, 74 provincial talents, seven provincial innovation-oriented teams and 36 municipal talents, and added eight individuals to the list of Yunnan's Provincial High-end Personnel Cultivation Plan.
Expanding its green land area by 15.8 hectares, the Majinpu Campus of Yunnan Metallurgy Technical School was identified as a provincial technical training base in 2019. The industrial development zone ranked first for its air quality in an evaluation of all downtown districts in Yunnan in 2019. It won 14.1 billion yuan of investment from investors outside Kunming and actually used $110 million of foreign direct investment in 2019.
The industrial development zone registered a number of new projects such as Yunnan Chunphy Energy, Airen Laboratory Medicine, Yunnan Jingfang Biotech, Yunnan Jici Regenerative Medicine, Yunnan Yuansantang Pharmaceutical, New Central Plant associated with Botanee Biotech, Vanform (Kunming) Electron Radiation Accelerators, 3rd Fengde Pharmaceutical Center, Cell Industrial Park affiliated to Yunnan Center for Cell Engineering, and Science Innovation Center of Walvax Biotechnology in 2019.
