More than 40 young people from China and the United States came together in Nanjing on May 31 for an immersive cultural exchange program that brought traditional Chinese heritage to life through hands-on experiences.
The International Youth Exchange Camp, held at Laomendong, welcomed teachers and students from the University of Pennsylvania, Southeast University and Nanjing University. Through interactive workshops centered on China's intangible cultural heritage, participants deepened their understanding of one another's cultures.
Guided by inheritors of traditional crafts and performing arts, the students explored a variety of heritage practices passed down through generations. They tried their hand at paper-cutting and rubbing techniques, learned the graceful movements of water sleeve performance, and discovered the artistry behind puppetry and shadow play. The program also featured experiences in dragon dance and magic performance.
